Instructions for doctoral examiners and comittees

Concerts and recordings as part of the artistic dissertation

Once the student has given all his or her doctoral degree concerts, each committee member submits a written assessment of the artistic dissertation and reasons to the Academic Council. Alternatively, the committee can submit a joint statement. The committee is required to attend all concerts that are part of the student's artistic dissertation. The final statement shall be comprised of a description and an assessment of the programme as an artistic whole; a critical analysis of the performer's merits, final comments and a grade proposal ("fail", "pass" or, for special reasons, "pass with merit").

Written work

The Academic Council will appoint two examiners to assess the student's written work. The assessment and reasons shall be submitted in writing to the Academic Council within two months.  The statements should be addressed to the Sibelius Academy Academic Council and sent as an email attachment and as a signed hard copy to Sirpa Järvelä sirpa.jarvela(at)siba.fi (DocMus) or Hannu Tolvanen, hannu.tolvanen(at)siba.fi (Folk Music, Jazz Music, Music Education,  Music Technology); Sibelius Academy, Sirpa Järvelä or Hannu Tolvanen, P.O.
