Artistic Project
In the Art Study Programme, the emphasis of doctoral studies is on independent artistic work. The project can include public concerts, published recordings, public performance of a composition or published compositions.
Artistic projects consisting of concerts should be equivalent to two concert programmes (licentiate's degree) or five concert programmes (doctoral degree). The concerts should form a coherent artistic unit. In addition, the project can include ensemble performances, provided that the student's part can be judged independently.
A previously published recording can be substituted for max. one concert programme (licentiate's degree) or max. two concert programmes (doctoral degree), provided that they are clearly relevant to the doctoral studies. However, recordings that have been counted towards the master's degree cannot be included.
The licentiate's degree must be completed within three years of receiving the right of study; for doctoral degrees, the timeframe is five years from receiving the right of study. In exceptional circumstances, students can apply for a time extension for the degree from the DocMus.
Supplementary Studies
In the Art Study Programme, supplementary studies can be theoretical, practical or research-related studies. In addition, they can include university-level studies at other institutions, as well as literature. Studies must include 15 ECTS credits of studies in the Philosophy of Arts and Sciences.
The content of the studies should be suitable for the set of topics included in the artistic project. The extent and subjects of the supplementary studies should be outlined in the doctoral study plan.
If the student has completed such studies prior to the doctoral studies and they were not included in a university degree, these studies can be counted towards the degree. The inclusion of these studies is decided by the academic supervisor.
Written Work
The subject of the written work is outlined in the doctoral study plan. Artistic projects and the written work should form a congruent unit that aids the student in his or her artistic development.
