Instructions for applicants

1. Read the Application Guide.

2. Fill in the application form at www.yliopistohaku.fi. (It's available in English: Information and applying > Fill in the application form)

  • The Sibelius Academy application form opens 5.3.2012 and will be closed 16.3.2012 at 16.15 (Finnish time). You cannot add any Sibelius Academy educations to the application form after that.
  • If you want to apply for the 5.5-year education, use the Joint Application form.

3. Deliver all required certificates to the Sibelius Academy Admissions Office by 16.3.2012 (16.15 Finnish time).

  • You don't have to send any language certificates if you a are citizen of an EU/EFTA-counry. Citizens of other countries must submit a language certificate to the Sibelius Academy.
  • If you have completed a Finnish matriculation examination in 1990 or after that, you don't have to send the certificate to the Sibelius Academy. If you are applying with some other degree (vocational degree, university/polytechnic degree, foreign degree, IB/Reifeprüfung) you must deliver the certificate and possible clarifications to the Sibelius Academy by the deadline.
  • You can send your certificates also by email or fax (please see the format/size in the application guide). Address: admissions(at)siba.fi, Fax +358-20 7539 600.

4. Deliver all required preliminary tasks and other attachments to the Sibelius Academy Admissions Office by 16.3.2012 (16.15 Finnish time).

  • If we don't get all required documents in time (e.g. the CV), you might not get an invitation to the entrance examinations. The Sibelius Academy does not return pre-examination assignments or certificates (don't send the original; we are happy with a copy).
  • N.B. You can send the documents (points 2 and 3) even before the application period starts to make sure we get them in time.
  • It's not allowed to send any preliminary tasks/sheets by email or fax.

Also the below listed preliminary tasks must be delivered to the Sibelius Academy Admissions Office by 16.3.2012 (16.15 Finnish time):

  • Jazz Music, instrument and voice option: No preliminary tasks
  • Jazz Music, composition option: 2–3 own compositions (sheets and recording)
  • Folk Music: No preliminary tasks
  • Classical music performance (other than voice): No preliminary tasks
  • Classical music performance (voice): CV, Essay, Music for the audition programme
  • Music Education: No preliminary tasks
  • Orchestral and Wind Orchestra Conducting: Conducting sample (DVD)
  • Choral Conducting: No preliminary tasks
  • Composition and Music Theory: CV and for the composition applicants composition samples (5 paper copies and a sound version if it exists).
