General Instructions
Password
Change your password as soon as you get your username, and afterwards at least once a year, preferably more often. The instructions for this can be found at the IT service’s Web site: www.siba.fi/it. If your password has expired or been forgotten, you must visit the Computing Centre at T-building (T-107) or the Computer Labs at P-building (P-410). Please be prepared to prove your identity. A password cannot be renewed by phone or email.
Due to safety and compatibility issues, a password must contain eight characters of which at least two are numbers and six are diverse. A password must not include European characters or spaces and the letters must not form any understandable word, even in a foreign language. Also the password to Amadeus must not contain capital letters.
Home folder
The users' home folder in Amadeus and the server Joonas for administration and library can be seen as K:-drive on Windows workstations, folder "Home" on Macs.
Disk space
The size of home directories is restricted on Amadeus. The current available disk space can be seen at the IT service’s Web site. If you wish to exceed this limit, please consult the administrators.
Users' homepages
If you wish to publish your own home page on the Web, the files must be located in the html-directory in your Amadeus home folder. The internet address of the home page will be http://www.siba.fi/~username.
Connecting to the Internet from home
It is possible for the owner of a Sibelius Academy email address to read email both at home via a private internet connection and elsewhere using public internet connections like libraries or internet cafés.
The settings for home connections depend on the server of the user’s mail box and the provider of the internet connection. The current internet settings can be found at the IT service’s Web site.
Connection restrictions
- to access Amadeus on telnet you must use a secure connection (SSH), if you are connected to the Internet via some ISP other than the Sibelius Academy
- you cannot access Joonas even on an SSH telnet connection
