The Sibelius Academy’s piano music programme offers a study cycle that extends from youth education to a doctorate degree while providing all students with a high level of professional skill. At the core of the studies are solo pianism on a demanding, even international, level; chamber and lied music; opera coaching; improvisation; keyboard harmony; pedagogical skills; historical instruments; performing practices; and skills for research and further studies.
The programme, which includes instructors for chamber and lied music, keyboard harmony, and advanced improvisation, is committed to fostering and renewing the art of pianism. The piano is also taught as a minor subject to students of other instruments. The programme’s faculty members possess nationally and internationally recognized expertise in pedagogy, historical keyboard instruments, and performance practices. The education supports the students in achieving first-class practical skills and professional knowledge and promotes their individual artistic development. The outcomes of artistic activity are presented at the Sibelius Academy concerts, as well as at festivals and competitions in Finland and abroad.
